One of my favorite book series is Hugh Howey’s Silo Series which is composed of Wool, Shift, and Dust.   The point of view and time period changes from book to book and even within a book, but they weave together a great story that is hard to put down once you start reading.   It is difficult to describe too much about the books without spoiling them, but they are set in a post-apocalyptic time where the remains of humanity reside in a giant silo buried in the ground.

Sand is the beginning of another series.  It is similar to the Silo Series in that it is set in a post-apocalyptic time, but it is a different apocalypse and really doesn’t have anything else in common.   Like the Silo Series, it is also good. The only problem is that the next books aren’t out yet.

Beacon 23 is a short book.  Unlike the previously mentioned books, this one is not in a post-apocalyptic world, although it is in a world with large scale war.  It is in a future where faster than light travel is possible thanks to a network of beacons that prevent ships from crashing into things.  The book is center on one particular beacon manned by a single crewman.  The story is about him and his internal and external problems.   I don’t think I enjoyed it as much as the other two series, but I would still recommend it.

There are more Hugh Howey books I have yet to read.  I look forward to reading them.
