The first two books of The Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss are fantastic. I can’t recommend them enough. There are a couple of things you should know before getting them, though. First, they’re both pretty long. Second, it takes a little bit to get into The Name of the Wind. It is not as complex as A Game of Thrones, but fantasy is fantasy. There are no reference points to attach to, so there is a lot of stuff to learn before things feel familiar. With A Game of Thrones, you just go watch the TV show and get up to speed on people and places and the books are a lot easier to follow. You don’t have that option here, but it doesn’t take as long to get a grasp on things. When you do, you can just enjoy the ride.
The first book is Day 1 and the second is Day 2. The world is incredible with magic, alchemy, faeries, augmented languages, martial arts, college life, MacGyver, tragedy, good times–and we’re just through Day 2. My only complaint is that I have to wait for Day 3.
